Vessels
Sailing vessel insurance
Sail carries exposures no powerboat has: standing rigging that fatigues invisibly, spars and sails worth a large share of the hull value, and racing that is frequently excluded unless endorsed. Rigging age is the most common sail-specific condition in the Australian market.
Catamaran and trimaran insurance
Catamarans and trimarans are priced on the cost of a claim rather than the likelihood of one. Beam limits which yards can haul the boat, twin machinery doubles certain exposures, and appetite is narrower — for trimarans, considerably so.
Hull construction and vessel age
Timber, steel and carbon each fail differently and are assessed differently. Age matters less than evidence: a well-documented thirty-year-old hull is a better risk than an unassessable fifteen-year-old, but automated underwriting cannot see the difference.
Motor vessel insurance
On powered boats the machinery, fuel and electrical systems drive both the premium and the serious claims. Fire is the dominant severity risk, and mechanical breakdown is almost universally excluded as wear.
Small craft and tender insurance
Tenders and trailer boats are usually insured within a parent policy or on modest terms, and their claims cluster around theft, road transit and launching rather than around sailing.
Prepare your quote properly
Insurers price what they can verify. Work through the vessel-details checklist before you request quotes, so every quote you get is built on the same facts.
