Providers

Read the PDS and certificate to identify the insurer. APRA maintains a list of authorised general insurers. The brand that markets the product may be acting as an agent or intermediary for another legal entity.

Brokers and underwriting agencies

An underwriting agency may have authority to quote, bind, administer or handle claims for an insurer. A marine insurance broker can approach insurers or underwriting markets for a client, which can be especially useful for unusual yachts, older vessels, offshore navigation or commercial risks. The exact relationship and service should be confirmed from the provider's disclosures.

Insurance licensing checks

Use ASIC's professional registers to check AFS licensees and authorised representatives. Read the Financial Services Guide where one is provided and make sure the legal entity names match the documents you receive.

Comparing insurance products

Provider reputation and claims service matter, but an insurer cannot be assessed without the policy offered for the specific vessel. A strong product for a trailer boat may not suit a 50-foot liveaboard catamaran heading to Fiji. Compare eligibility, navigation, valuation, liability, salvage, cyclone conditions, racing, surveys and excesses.

Brand information selection

The provider directory on this site is an impartial research starting point. Inclusion does not mean endorsement. If commercial referral relationships are added later, they should be disclosed without changing factual policy descriptions or the published comparison methodology.
