The distinction matters more than it looks. The brand on the website is the agent; the insurer standing behind the policy is Allianz. When you check an insurer's financial strength, or when you escalate a claim, Allianz is the entity that matters. Both AFS licence numbers should appear on your certificate of insurance.

Club Marine policy issuer and distribution

Club Marine's main offering is a pleasure craft policy that combines physical loss or damage to the vessel with third-party liability, alongside a narrower third-party-only option. The company publishes its PDS, any Supplementary PDS and its Target Market Determination on its own website, which is where any current claim about the product should be sourced from.

The product includes lay-up periods and an adjustable excess, both of which are levers on premium. Increasing the excess or nominating a lay-up period during which the boat will not be used can reduce the premium, at the cost of retaining more risk yourself or accepting a restriction on when you can sail.

Sailing and racing wording to check

Club Marine writes across the whole recreational fleet, from small runabouts through to cruising yachts. That breadth is a strength for a general boat owner and a reason for care if you sail. A product built to serve the entire market will define some things generically that matter enormously to a yacht.

Typically suits

  • Owners wanting a well-known brand with a large claims network
  • Coastal and inshore use within a standard insured area
  • Trailer boats, runabouts and mainstream production yachts
  • Owners who value direct online quoting and dealer relationships

Check carefully

  • How the insured cruising area is defined, and what an offshore extension requires
  • Standing-rigging age conditions and when a re-rig becomes a requirement
  • Whether club racing is included or needs to be added, and what happens to sails and spars
  • Which excesses stack on a single storm or cyclone event
  • Sub-limits on electronics, personal effects and the tender

Club Marine and specialist policies

Club Marine competes on scale, brand recognition and distribution rather than on niche appetite. For a bluewater cruising yacht, an older hull, a liveaboard arrangement or an offshore passage, specialist sail underwriters may take a more considered view of the risk — and may simply be willing to write cover that a mass-market product declines or heavily conditions.

None of that makes one product better in the abstract. It means the right comparison is your boat, your cruising plans and your storage arrangement priced across several markets on identical facts.

Current Club Marine documents

Everything on this page should be re-checked against Club Marine's current documents before you rely on it. Product wording, navigation areas, excess structures and even the issuing insurer can change between policy versions.

  1. Download the current PDS and any Supplementary PDS from the provider's own website.
  2. Read the definitions section first — it controls how every later clause is applied.
  3. Find the navigation limits or insured cruising area and check it covers where the boat actually goes.
  4. List every excess that could apply to one event, not just the standard excess.
  5. Confirm the issuing insurer and the AFS licence numbers on the certificate of insurance.

Frequently asked questions

Who underwrites Club Marine boat insurance?

Allianz Australia Insurance Limited carries the risk. Club Marine Limited issues the policy and handles claims as Allianz's agent under its own AFS licence.

Is Club Marine the cheapest boat insurance in Australia?

There is no single cheapest insurer, because premiums are calculated from your vessel, its value, where it is kept, where it sails and your claims history. A brand that is competitive for a trailer boat in a shed can be uncompetitive for an offshore cruising yacht on a swing mooring.

Does Club Marine cover racing?

Racing cover, and whether sails, spars and rigging are included while racing, is set by the current policy wording and any endorsement on your certificate. Confirm it in writing before entering an event rather than assuming a comprehensive policy includes it.

Prepare your quote properly

Insurers price what they can verify. Work through the vessel-details checklist before you request quotes, so every quote you get is built on the same facts.
