We're Gabriel and Kristy, the couple behind Sailboat Insurance and YouSail.
Our dream is simple. Buy a sailing yacht, move aboard and see where the wind takes us. Australia first. Then the Pacific. Maybe much further.
We're not there yet. We're still learning, taking courses, spending time on boats and asking a lot of questions.
Why we built Sailboat Insurance
One of those questions kept coming back: how do we insure the boat and the life we want to live aboard?
What changes when you live aboard? What should you ask before heading offshore? How do racing, an older rig or a different mooring affect the questions you need to put to an insurer?
We wanted a place that brought those questions together and helped us understand where to look for answers. So we built it.
That's Sailboat Insurance. It's the sailboat and yacht insurance guide we needed ourselves, built by two sailors in the making.
What you will find here
Our guides explain insurance terminology, the documents to read and the questions to ask when buying, renewing or changing how you use a yacht. The tools and calculators help organise your information, while our insurance comparison guides help you look beyond the headline premium.
We're not going to pretend we've sailed every passage or dealt with every insurance claim. We haven't. We're learning as we go and organising what we find. Insurance cover depends on the actual policy wording, schedule and terms offered for your boat.

Meet Gabriel, our founder
Gabriel Machuret is the founder of Sailboat Insurance. His background is in marketing, SEO and app store optimisation. He builds websites around the life he wants to live; these days, that means sailing.
