Regulation

Start with the actual berth agreement

There is no single figure supplied by this guide that can stand in for every marina's terms. Obtain the agreement for your marina and berth type, including visitor stays. Record the stated insurance limit, required cover and certificate procedure, then ask the insurer to confirm the policy meets them.

Certificate checklist

  • Vessel identity and named insured match the agreement.
  • Policy dates cover the whole planned stay.
  • Required liability limits and relevant activities are shown.
  • Any requested interested-party wording has been confirmed by the insurer.
  • The marina has accepted the evidence and explained its renewal process.

Separate cover from operating conditions

A certificate does not show every exclusion. Check liveaboard use, contractors, hot work, storm preparation and unattended-vessel conditions in the relevant documents. Ask who needs to be told if you change the boat, policy, operator or berth.

A practical question to send

Please provide the insurance conditions for my proposed berth, including required limits, certificate wording and any requirements for liveaboard use or contractors. I will ask my insurer to confirm the policy meets those conditions.

Record policy confirmations

Keep the clause and written response beside each requirement.
